: Not So Roomy
Sep 20, 2006

Snow really does provide polar bears some pretty good insulation from the cold icy outside air to let their own internally generated heat keep them warm. It may not be quite like our home’s insulation which measures an R-Value (a measure of thermal resistance) of about 3, but it’s not bad at an R-Value of 1 being that polar bears have several feet of insulation around their den.

I can still make five this week. Another update later today. πŸ™‚

  1. Flux says:

I suspected something like this (an Iglo build of snow instead of ice), but I didn’t expect them to make it that small πŸ™‚

The third picture kinda looks like the inside of a uterus ^^

  2. BriGuy says:

Well then Wally, if that’s the roomy version build the mansion version.

It doesn’t look as if Wally’s positioning is very comfortable.

  3. Jesse says:

They should make it bigger and have tons of tunnels and then they could control antartica from their underground base. ^_^

  4. iohop says:

    im now iohop,not io.

  5. BriGuy says:

That must have been how it looked inside of the balloon in “Wally Balloon”.

  6. Jai Inder says:

Excellent. But I am definitely hoping this is the last comic in this series. Although it might be kinda bad to end the arc here… AAH! I can’t decide! Up to you, Tyler, I guess. Sat Nam people.

  7. Zack says:

LOL it looks pretty cool § . its like in the next comic the celing caves.
    Skua Fact I Just Started.

The Brown Skua (Catharacta antarctica) is often referred to as Antarctic Skua (or vice versa); the taxonomy of Skuas is still a matter of dispute. Other names (probably owing to the high level of hybridization in this species) include Southern Great Skua, Southern Skua or Subantarctic Skua. The New Zealand Māori call it Hakoakoa. It breeds circumpolar in the subantarctic and antarctic zones.

  8. Nick says:

The smaller it is, the easier it is to keep warm!

  9. axis says:

    where’s the bathroom

  10. Martinus says:

Modesty is the mother of all virtue…

  11. bigd-wadefan says:

LOL a little small 4 a polar bear home

  12. Cat says:

Awww. Polar bear homes really are like that too. They’ll build them on a bit of a hill, and angle the door upwards for ventilation purposes. Usually they only build homes when they’re going to give birth though….oO

  13. Jai Inder Singh says:

That is not a pleasant thought, Cat, but it would be a pretty cute baby, a fat little bear cub with downy grey penguin fluff, that waddles around on four legs. I can imagine that thing being the sweetest or most terrifying thing ever. It would have to be extreme in any case. It could be ferocious…or voracious. OR! It could be a lovable doofus (or what I like to call a Boobus (this is not a reference to breasts, until right….now! Get a life, jeez, don’t take everything the wrong way!)) Of course that require one of them to actually be a girl, but I think if that were the case this comic would not be as cool. I mean a girl would actually be smart, and use the rocks, with snow, to build a fortress to be assaulted by an army of penguins…

  14. Jai Inder Singh says:

This was the answer I was looking for: That black stuff is dark soil that has some how been uncovered by the the slightly less cold glow of the antarctic sun.

“The beaches in Antarctic are a little different. They are basically ice beaches except for some areas in summer that the dark soil and rock see water. Though weary of Orcas (Killer Whales), its not so much penguins but seals on beaches that see this scenario. Its just a hard life here and weÒ€ℒre going to have to be hardened to itÒ€¦ and stay out of the water. Personally IÒ€ℒm sticking to snow castles with Wally.”

  15. BriaN says:

You’re a little behind on that 5… lets see you’d have to post 3 tomorrow… and I think that’d be a lot of work… so I am willing to forgive you for not making 5 this week…

  16. S. Dolphin says:

hahaha yeah i definately think they should do a snow fort

  17. Cpt. Stubble says:

He probably farted… One of those warm farts.

  18. ostrich girl says:

he, when ya gotta get warm, ya gotta get warm!

  19. ostrich girl says:

hey…i’ve been thinking, how are they gonna get out?

  20. Phizlo says:

How are they going to get out! Don’t you mean “How did they get in?”

  21. Zack says:

hi Phizlo its me the guy next to u in the library. i wonder how whats next.

  22. Sheena says:

Bwahahahahahahaha! But my idea STILL should have been used, you know. It is clearly stated in previous comics (aka yesterday’s and day before yesterday’s). πŸ˜€

  23. Sheena says:

b/w It looks uncomfortable in there. I won’t say my idea again because it is too long and is wasting my life. πŸ™

  24. Zack says:

Its like next conmic soem penguins walk over there uhhh “home” and it caves in. That would be funny HEY TYLER ARE U LISTENING lol. if i had the money and i knew how to draw i would make something like this buyt unfortuanelty, im lacking the drawing part XP
btw next skua fact is either tomorow or next comic

  25. hey people did u miss me?
    i didnt think so.
guess what my b-day is this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!
so Tyler *hint hint* if u could make a comic sometime soon
for my birthday that would be totally awesome.

well here’s my penguin fact: (sorry its late!)

The Magellanic penguin was named after Ferdinand Magellan, who first saw
them on his voyage in 1519 around the tip of South America.

well bye bye (next time i post a comment i’ll be a teenager!!!!!!!) πŸ˜€

  26. oh and PS-if anyone has a question about penguins PLEASE ask me because
I like answering questions about penguins!!!!!!!!!
and by the next comment i meant the next comment after this one…

  27. iohop says:

cool! πŸ™‚ but no update! πŸ˜₯

  28. Martinus says:

    Hello “Hannah the Penguin Freak”,

do you know where the Gentoo penguins from the antarctic peninsula spend the winter time?

  29. Joepro says:

    Jai Inder, that’s just nasty!!!

  30. Zack says:

    Skua Fact.

Skuas are related to gulls, waders, auks and skimmers. In the three smaller species (all Holarctic), breeding adults have the two central tail feathers obviously elongated and at least some adults have white on the underparts and pale yellow on the neck, characteristics that the larger species (all native to the Southern Hemisphere except for the Great Skua) do not share.

BTW the skuas that were in the comic are Brown Skuas.
Also. Im dissapointed sorta that the new comic isnt out yet. Didn’t you promise a new one 3 days ago on the same day?

  31. Rusty says:

Oh Tyler, still as clever as ever.

  32. Alexis says:

    Hi Everyone!
    I’m back! πŸ™‚
    So HI!

  33. Commy says:

hey guys i was a HUGE reader of the comic at funbrain but stumbled across this site glad i can post now great work tyler on the comic

and can i ask why they are not comics evey day like at the other site

  34. Joepro says:

Commy, it is because Tyler is in the middle of manny projects and, while Funbrain is many comics behind us, it can just take comics from this site even if Tyler hasn’t posted a comic yet. For example: Fun brain is still on the comic “Like Taking Candy From A Baby” and even if Tyler dosn’t post A new comic tommorow, Funbrain can go onto “Guilt Belly”. But if Tyler dosn’t get his butt in gear Funbrain is gonna catch up and start having to slow down with us. So wake up and finish thoose projects and start on more comics before they do catch up! ! !

  35. Hi yal! I’m new to the site, but love penguns so much that I finnished the entire set of comics in two days! Be back soon!

  36. Hannah. I’m just guessing,b ut you seem to love penguins just as much as I do. You sure do give out usufull facts. Keep them up, bye!

  37. Jonathan says:

My back hurt at Osborne’s position. Ouch

  38. Jai Inder Singh says:

Osbourne’s position?! OSBOURNE’S POSITION????!!!!! Look at WALLY! HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. Commy says:

lol osbourne can just lay down THEN HE WILL HAVE A LOT OF ROOM! but i have no idea wut the heck wally is thinking lol

  40. hey people πŸ˜€
and Penguin, Lover, I was thinking the exact same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😯
Martinus, Gentoo penguins spend the year in the (on the?) Antarctic Peninsula.
well i guess that was the penguin fact for today, so bye bye!
    oh, and PS-I’m 13 now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
