Crude Oil

Antarctica is often referred to as the last unspoiled place on earth. Unfortunately that is changing and it is only a matter of time. As far as I know, to this day there are old wrecked ships there still leaking fuel into otherwise clean waters. I’ve seen some older TV specials where they would occasionally check the wrecks and try to keep the old tanks welded up. With more humans travelling and working there, coupled with the lack of ozone and global warming we could see this last continent change drastically in this next century.

Saving the Polar Bear

Wally seems pretty indestructable but real polar bears are getting thinner as their hunting ice gets thinner. With the way things are going, one day there may be no ice at all in the arctic during the summer. Summer is a long time without much food for polar bears and two US explorers are going to travel the arctic (1,100 miles) by foot and canoe studying their changing habitat. More information at CNN.

Okay, maybe not really a dinosaur, but a penguin that lived before the dinosaurs died out has been discovered. Its fossils are the oldest penguin fossils on record, unearthed in New Zealand. Read more at National Geographic.

  • Grzesio

maybe that dinopenguin is max? you know, that big penguin form old strips ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Lee

Just when you thought Wally couldn’t get more crude…

  • There’s always room for wally to get cruder… i hope.

  • Zak

Tyler, do you scour the web for penguin and polar bear news? i confess i am oblivious of all of these things you list, pengiun dinosaurs, wrecked ships still leaking and all the other fascinating facts that you put on your strips. i remember seeing a comment in the past that your strip is unique in its wiki type posts below each strip.

it definatly brings me back each day, becuase although the subject is hard to bring into common conversation, knowing these facts just makes me feel a little bit smarter every day ๐Ÿ™‚

so erm, thanks for that =)

  • RW

That panal of wallys mouth is really wierd, almost grusome…Well anyway, really funny!

  • The switching between vector and bitmap art in today’s strip works really well! Good stuff!

  • Cameron Stankich

    No more undies?!

    • Yep. That’s the end of HOLY SWEET WHALE CARCASS TO THOSE UNDIES Week.

  • Matt D

4th panel reminds me of Ren & Stimpy, when they would do those close up shots of nasty stuff.

  • Edi

MAN That is sick..The art style really adds to the point, great job!

Today’s comic almost made me cry.

  • Yeah, the fourth panel was a little unsettling with the first, third, and fifth; but man, I know what you’re saying: oil es no beuno para bears de polar.

  • You

    when i read the 3rd panel i was like”what the?….”

  • ~*Ashley*~

wont that kill a real polar bear?

  • NO WALLY, NOT THE OIL!!!!!! :-O

    • Yes. Chocolate syrup does not come from oil cans. And EATING oil might make you sick. Yuck.

  • bobo

    bueno bueno bueno bueno bueno,
i could say that all day.

  • bobo

what does oil es no beuno para bears de polar mean.

  • Mute

Say, that’s material for a couple of strips, Tyler. Let’s hope for some hallucinations from Wally again!(Well, as long as he recovers)

  • Sev

That close-up is hell of nasty!

  • Sev

Also, this Polar bear expedition sounds exciting, like the much-hyped “Megatransect.”

  • Katy

“oil es no bueno para bears de polar” is a Spanglish version of the english sentence, Oil is no good for polar bears.
Spanish would be “aceite es no bueno para los osos polares”
Yay living in LA is useful =-D

  • were is today’s new comic. ๐Ÿ˜•

  • Edward =)=)

  • Cameron Stankich

    See it,…I do not.

  • Cameron Stankich

Say, are the ppl livin’ in antartica the “drill it-n-spill it corp” workers? The ppl w/ the orange coats.

  • Danil

    Wow.. Love the comics =)
Anyway, just realized that the words below the panels are… mm.. informative hehe =)
    Cool site btw

  • Mute

Guys, don’t complain about the lack of comic. It’s 10 in the morning, for pete’s sake, and Tyler’s obviously tired.

  • Cameron Stankich

Well, that ideas is smashed seeing it’s now 11.

  • tux

Hey! Some of us still consider 11 early in the morning! ๐Ÿ˜›

  • Cameron Stankich

that’s funny…i call it “ALMOST LUNCH! Time to break from school! Yeah!” It’s now aproching 12.

  • im up at 6am.

  • Cameron Stankich

    Yeah! Go BOB!

  • Cameron Stankich

    So, bobo. No comic today?

  • Mute

Well, maybe he just wants to relax today. OR… maybe, you could look at the dates on your messages. Maybe it’s still ten to eight wherever Tyler lives. Give the guy a break!

  • Sev

I say we storm the castle and string him up!

  • SuperVegito

@Tyler: Awesum Strip Dude…I Love The Way It Looks, If I’m Not Mistaken You Blended the Vector Style and free hand style…not actually blended but used them both in the same strip ๐Ÿ˜› (i suck at describing stuff when i really need too) forgive me for my lack of describ-a-bility-ness type thing, but the main point is “HOLY SWEET WHALE CARCUS!!! THIS IS STYLE SWEET!!” ^_^

    • It’s not CARCUS, it’s CARCASS!

  • Cameron Stankich

    YEAH!!!! Um….what castle?

  • Matt D is right, that was VERY John Kricfalusi of you.

    Which is of course, EXCELLENT.

  • Cameron Stankich

Dude…yer talkin’ to a comic strip cuz TY AINT HERE!!!

  • Cameron Stankich

    • It’s the end of Undies week.

  • Cameron Stankich

Hey, look for my comment on the 1st comic! I predicted the futer! wooooooo!

    • It’s not FUTER, it’s FUTURE!

  • You

  • Hey, I’m here. Thanks for all the comments guys.

I Just didn’t get to today’s comic as soon as I wanted but it will indeed be up shortly. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • It’s interesting that you mention the old ships leaking fuel in the Antarctic – remember that little thing called WWII? There are ships and planes lying at the bottom of just about every part of the ocean just waiting to unleash their cargoes of fuel on an unsuspecting environment. None of the governments that officially “own” them can afford to empty out the tanks unless they are about to burst.

  • Wowie

    I like the close-up

  • Penguin Boy

  • Sputnix

I spy a dead bird form “drill it and spill it”
    making 7 deaths

  • steve-o

7 deaths? where are the other six

  • hi guys

    the 4th panel is SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

  • 45Liger

Its been almost 3 months scince The Deep Water Horizon exploded. 11 people died, and now, the oil is spreading through the Gulf of Mexico, and harmig and killing a lot of the wildlife and habitits of the ocean, and some marshes and estuaries! ๐Ÿ™ A lot of animals are covered in oil! ๐Ÿ™ I hope they are able to clean it up soon.

  • 45Liger

Oh, and crude oil is red or orange(occasionally blue or green). Refined oil is black(occasionally white).
