: Tourists: Stare Standoff
Jun 5, 2006

This is the time when you are watching an animal that knows it’s being watched. Rather than engaging in any of it’s normal activities you would like to spy in on, it just watches you back. Seems to happen sometimes in zoos, especially with the primates. You often wonder who is watching who. You got yerself a stare standoff.

New Orlean Penguins Return From Family Reunion

Nineteen African blackfooted penguins returned to a New Orleans aquarium after being rescued from it due to Hurricane Katrina. They stayed at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, with several other penguins that had originally come from the New Orleans aquarium. It was like a family reunion for them. Read the complete article from Associated Press.

Of course the penguins may prefer to be back in Monterey or even Africa at the rate New Orleans is sinking and with the hurricanes expected this year.

Global Warming Fun Time

Global WarmingSpeaking of hurricanes, global warming was linked to the hurricanes in 2005, which was an active year as far as hurricanes go. I’d link to the articles but they are no longer available. There is this one though on the discussion of whether these rising temperatures are threatening Florida with a long-term future in bad storms.

Sometimes people will tell me that global warming is nothing, it’s just a media hype thing, it’s just a natural cycle of the earth, it got this warm a hundred years ago too. Well, it’s scientific fact it is getting warmer, as to whether it is part of the earth’s cycle is kind of irrelevant. Whether it is or not does not make it any better for us. The fact that there have been huge earthquakes before doesn’t ease the news of another one coming, especially if there was something you could do to slow it down. In history those warm periods helped spread plagues, disease and famine. Even in this modern age we are not immune to heat and rapid change of our climate. I know I’ll continue to follow news of it and be investing in ice companies. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Animals aren’t the only things that stop doing what they normally do when they are being watched. How many times have you stopped doing anything when someone brings out a video camera just in case you do something stupid?

I guess when beachfront property is located 30 miles inland, people will admit something has gone terribly wrong with the planet. 20/20 hindsight is a truly wonderful thing.

    sweet comixs ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. Mr. It's hot says:

I live in Phoneix…What’s another few degrees?
( I live in irony when it comes to global warming…take my car for example…I run the A/C to beat the heat, which uses fuel, which causes the emissions that make it hot…err…hotter?)

    Se la vie!

  4. Chris says:

Just wanted to say I love your comics. Laugh out loud cuteness.

  5. Guy says:

Global warming is a tricky subject. Let’s say our current heat cycle were to be ENTIRELY caused by humans. If we were to end using fossil fuels and cut all eco-unfriendly emissions would that solve the problem? And in the event that the problem has very little to do with humans and more to do with the earth, what is it that we’re supposed to do then? This is why the topic’s kind of a joke to me, I really don’t see what anyone thinks they’re going to do about it. It’s just something else to scream about.

I’d signup to see some penguins like that ๐Ÿ˜›

Wish we had penguins in the Toronto zoo, saw them in Montreal last time I was there but too long ago now ๐Ÿ™

  7. Tyler Martin says:

It’s true Guy. I’ve always looked down upon pointing out problems when no solutions are offered. Many opionists in the political field do that.

I see news of global warming as helping building awareness of our environment. If that will help bring down pollution and the human elimination of wildlife then that would be a good thing. In the last 50 years humans have already learned a lot about conserving water and energy and even recycling, and we need to learn more. We just cant be ignorant of the situation is all.

    I love these comics. ๐Ÿ˜€

    To Guy up there…

So what you are saying is that because we are not completely sure if it’s our fault or not, we shouldn’t do anything about it just in case it isn’t? I’m sorry but i think that’s just plain stupid. Even if it doesn’t change a thing about global warming (which i doubt), working to stop the excessive use of fossil fuels and cutting down on eco-unfriendly emissions would mean fresher air for us to breathe. It would be a win-win situation.

  10. Hannah says:

okay, its kinda off-subject, but I had the weirdest dream!!!
I dreamed that I was a tourist in Antarctica,
Then there was a storm and so I jumped off and swam
    to the closest iceberg.
It just so happened that Wally and Osbourne were sitting on the
    iceberg laughing at the tourists.
Then I heard a really loud “beep beep beep!”
I opened my eyes and realized that it was my alarm so I got up.

  11. her says:

I had this dream too…OK in my case…I was bored at work, peeking in at W&O, and therefore it was a DAYdream….

Gas prices in the US all as they are these days, (but I’ve spent over 6 years outside my home country and see what SOME countries pay for gas), saw all this talk of global warming, and such…pshaw! I said!

Now having originally discovered On the Rocks ’cause of Martin over at ttp://www.martingrund.de/pinguine/ where it is full on WINTER in Antartica…bleck!

But, here I’ve just Pimped My Summer Ride (bicycle!) with ideas of putting a Pumper Sticker (snort รขโ€žยข) on which says “What high gas prices?”

    Anyway, then I thought:

What would Wally and/or Osbourne or their newly-arrived visitors look like ….RIding Bikes?

And that’s all I have to say….about that!

  12. Mr. It's hot says:

Acutally global warming is caused by those “evil” green house gasses. Such as Methane. Given the demand for Beef, there are larger populations of bovine then ever in history. They are the main cause to global warming. Natures balance is all wack…not cause of cars, but cows…well the stuff they make…err…you know…

  13. bob says:

๐Ÿ˜› that was the funnyest comic i ever read!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ
