: Feeding Fishies Fishies
Feb 6, 2006

In case you are new around here, Wally scoops the fishies with a shovel because he can’t stand to touch them.

Anyway, yes, orcas, despite being commonly known as killer whales, are in fact part of the dolphin family. Along with some other large members of the dolphin family they are also known as “blackfish”. So we could see Wally’s confusion.

As far as orcas eating penguins and polar bears, yes. They are by no means a regular part of their diet, but it’s been reported that orcas have feasted on both penguins and polar bears being that orcas are located at both arctic regions and enjoy their spot at the top of the food chain. Polar bears often swim great distances in the ocean when the ice begins to separate and drift leaving them open as a target. And orcas do not seem to discriminate much in hunting, they even hunt other dolphins… I’ve read about them taking out great white sharks too.

Polar Bears Love Them Some Swimming

You know Wally & Osbourne are going to be okay right? They don’t really get eaten, although even if he escaped Wally doesn’t have his water wings. Naturally, and aside from Wally, polar bears are amazing and gracefull swimmers. I found this video the other day, I wish my zoo had a polar bear exhibit like this one, it’s some great footage from someone’s home video (wait, is that possible?) of a polar bear getting some swimming in. He would like to get into the neighboring seal tank. It’s even edited to music, thanks whoever!

Small RSS Feeds/LiveJournal Change

I made the feed comic a bit smaller to fit into RSS readers and LiveJournal templates a bit better. If you like the comic big you’ll just have to come to the site. If you have LiveJournal be sure to add On the Rocks. Then you can read it there and share it with your friends, or um, I guess you would be sharing it with people that are reading your friends posts…or however that works, heh. Also the RSS feed as always is here. If you are not using RSS you really should, look it up and get a reader, I use my Thunderbird e-mail software, it works great. With an RSS feed reader you can see when any of your favorite news/blog sites update without having to constantly check them.
